Joel Hinds was born in 1987 in Duffield, Derbyshire.

He started playing squash at the age of 10 with his Primary school along with a range of other sports, enjoying squash the most he began to play squash more and more.

Making his first England appearence at U15 level, he began to take the sport a bit more seriously and start training on a regular basis.

After competing for England, he became more involved in the England Squash programme, working with the England squash coaches and EIS (English Institute of Sport) and has continued to do so to date.

After competing at subsequent European championships, at different age group catagories, Joel went to train at Milfield School in Somerset.  This enabled him to train with quality players on a regular basis, and train with Jonah Barrington and Ian Thomas whilst studying A-levels.

Finishing his studies at Milfield, he opted not to immidiately take up full time squash,  and decided to go to Birmingham University to study (EPSE) European Politics, Society and Economics (BSc).  This seemed like the most logical choice of universities due to the well structured squash programme at the University under Kier Worth and subsequently Jon Tate.

Whilst at University, Joel continued to train and play a few small PSA tournaments around the UK in order to lift his ranking from the bottom and allow him to enter bigger tournaments on completion of his degree programme.

Having graduated in 2009 with a 2:1, he decided to focus fully on his squash career and Join the PSA tour full time.  Playing his first full year on the tour he has risen to a career highest ranking of 98.

Joel is currently based in Birmingham and resides at the Wild West (West Drive) with three other pro squash players: namely Jonny 'boi' Harford, Chris 'waterboy' Truswell and Jaymie 'Hurricane' Haycocks.  The quartet currently train at Edgbaston priory club with honorary housemate Chris Ryder, when in the UK.

Joel's main interests outside of squash include: poker, skype, films, sudoku and spotify
